I have a picky eater.
I make my baby food from scratch. I introduced the "savory" vegetables before the sweet stuff. Well, mostly. I introduced new foods every 3-5 days to keep the variety going.
This was all "supposed" to result in a less picky eater. I call bulls***.
I mix apples into J's veggies to get him to eat them when he won't touch them on their own. And he does. To all those "experts" out there that criticize this - You try feeding my squirming, 9 month old baby against his will. I dare you. I can guarantee you will end up with baby food in your face, hair, all over baby's outfit, the kitchen floor, the dog (I don't joke, she has been covered in peas before). And none in baby's mouth. So I give him apples on the tip of the spoon. Mommy's happy he gets his veggies and protein. Baby's happy he gets the sweet stuff. I'm sure I will pay for this later (read: one day very soon) but for now, it gets us through mealtime.
Thus far, he also refuses to eat any meats I make. So I caved and bought my first jarred baby food - vegetables and beef (albeit organic). And he likes them and eats them. Without fruit added in.
I feel like a terrible mom, feeding my baby jar food. I feel so guilty I continue to make meat and protein alternative recipes from the baby cookbook : Mango Chicken (he LOVES mango) - he threw it up on me. Hummus for beginners - he threw it up on me. You get the picture.
Last night I made chicken stew (chicken, carrots, potatoes, celery). I'll let you know how that one goes. Then next on the menu is baby Shepherds Pie. It has the EXACT same ingredients as the store brand vegetables and beef that he likes. Fingers crossed.
