One of my favourite books, "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy," gave me this advice about the baby weight: 9 months up, 9 months down. So once J was born, I told myself, no rush, you have 9 months to lose the weight. In my case, this was - to be exact - 48 pounds. Yikes! I didn't eat that unhealthy when I was pregnant, I just ate waaay more than I needed to. And of course, the occasional indulgence!
So now he's 9 months old (+9 days), and I still have 8 pounds of baby blubber. Pretty picture eh? Its not really that bad, I'm just a bit melodramatic.
The first 30 pounds literally fell off. I came home from the hospital 20 pounds lighter. I was nursing, so the next 10 were gone within the first 6 weeks. The next 10 took months....of course, I convinced myself I needed to eat ALOT while nursing to maintain my milk...Really, I mean I read somewhere that you need to eat more calories when you're nursing than when you're pregnant! Is it true? In my little fantasy world, yep!
And nursing is supposed to be a big helper in weight loss. It definitely was for the first couple months. It definitely wasn't once J started solids and he nursed less, but I didn't eat less.
We bought a treadmill and set up a mini home gym in the basement so once J was in bed I could work out every night. Ha! I'm so tired most nights I can barely stay awake past 8pm.
So here's my public resolution (maybe that way I'll stick to it?)
1) I will not open the pantry doors after dinner; only bad things happen.
2) I will exercise 4 times a week. Ok, 3. Lets not push it.
3) I will finally use the 5-dance class pass I purchased a couple months ago.
